Concussive head injuries (mTBI) are often difficult to diagnose, and technologies for diagnosis are often expensive, complex, and unsuitable for point-of-care use. Head and Interocular Injury Test (HIIT) is a non-invasive, handheld device that uses retinal birefringence scanning (RBS) to rapidly assess vision abnormalities in children. Targeted modification of the current RBS device for assessment of TBI will allow a single-scan evaluation of potential injury from retina to cortex. NCC-PDI has provided $50,000 in direct funding and clinical expertise.
